- Water Supply
The water supply system in Bishoftu city is the tap water and the water point/Bonos/ system. It is from the deep water well and stored at reservoir planted at different sites. Then distributed to the end users/the community, urban agriculture and industries. In terms of water treatment, there are three water disinfection points (DPs) installed at different sites. From these, one point was installed in the year 1987 and the other two points were installed in the year 2012G.C. and 2014G.C. respectively. There are 18 functional deep water well which have14-19L/S each and 1 ongoing deep water well with production capacity of 291.6L/s. And three reservoirs with storing capacity of three reservoirs have a storing capacity up to 3000m3. And the remaining two reservoirs can store 500m3 and 200m3 respectively. The chlorination method is in used by addition of calcium hypochlorite (powder) manually per day at the mouth of water wells and sometimes added at the reservoirs. The chlorinated water is distributed to the inhabitants through private taps and public Stand pipes. The distribution network include 25,800 private taps and 61 functional public stand Pipes to serve the general public with clean water and 29 hydrants for emergency cases(BCAWSSE,2015). The current water supply service coverage of the city is 42% and in terms of built up area the coverage is declined to 45% in 2007EFY. This is because the changes in standard of clean water provision and the inclusion of new rural Kebele under the city administration. (BCA WSSE, 2007).
The city demanded above 81, 200kw of this hydro power. 34,309 households are also getting electric power electric services. The data obtained from Ethiopia Electric power agency branch of the city indicates that above 36,300kw of power allocated for the city is utilized by industries and other companies.
- Postal and Telecommunication Services
According to the data obtained from the branch postal service office, Bishoftu city is currently accessed to1990 postal boxes those give services at national and international level. Among these boxes 1291 boxes have already rented to the users whereas 699 boxes are still not rented. When compared to last year data in the year 2007 more 13 boxes are rented. In addition to postal services telecommunication service is also available in the city to provide communication service through cell phone, permanent and internet access. The information from the Ethio-telecom branch office of the city indicates that 140,600 mobile phone customers, 8396 fixed telephone customers and 59 public cell phone services are available in the city. The number of fixed telephone users decreased by 2,129 and this due to increase in mobile users.
